What cannot be known
Where a member is
There is no way to know. Discord does not tell a bot where anybody is — no country, no region, no IP address, no language setting — on the event that fires when somebody joins, or on the member afterwards, or anywhere else. It is not a permission that can be granted and it is not a feature that is coming.
Any product that claims to show you a map of your members is either guessing from something unrelated or showing you something else and calling it that.
What is shown instead
The World screen maps your page’s visitors, not your members. That country comes from the network your page is served over, which attaches it to the request before servr sees it — so no address is read, and views are counted per country per day rather than per visit.
The two are related but they are not the same number, and they are not labelled as though they were. A page that gets 400 visits from Brazil and no joins from Brazil is telling you something real; pretending the visits were members would tell you nothing.
Why invite attribution is sometimes “Unknown”
Discord does not say which invite a member used either. It is worked out by reading every invite’s use count and finding the one that went up. That fails in three ways that cannot be fixed:
- a single-use invite is deleted the moment it is used, so there is nothing left to compare against,
- two people arriving within the same moment both increment, and the pairing is unknowable,
- the vanity URL keeps its count somewhere else entirely.
Those arrivals are recorded as Unknown rather than assigned to the nearest guess. A breakdown that quietly dropped them would make every other row look better than it is.
